Surviving Zombieland

When I was a kid zombies chased people about as quickly as a clumsy tortoise.  That’s not very fast.  In fact that’s extremely slow.  In my day, the only way to actually get caught by a zombie was to stumble upon one in the basement, frolic through a graveyard (at night), skinny dip in a lake (at night), or stand directly next to a window (because zombies could easily punch through glass windows and yank you right out.)

Nowadays, zombies are still clumsy (and strong as usual), but they have taken some running lessons.  Modern zombies run fast, clumsily still yes, but fast.  I don’t know how well they’d do running uphill, but I suspect they’d catch the average non-runner.  It’s understandable then how they quickly took over the country in the “B” movie, Zombieland.  This also explains why the main character, Columbus (who has a list of thirty-something rules) names his number one rule to surviving Zombieland as CARDIO.

Today, I got in my cardio during my second of 2 back-to-back “hard” weeks.  Nothing like getting my cardio in during scorching hot temperatures.  The trails were desolate which was understandable.  No one’s thinking about zombies in this heat.  Then I met another trail running friend, Steve, as he worked on his cardio in this forsaken heat.

At least we will stand a chance against zombies.   Plus, I don’t have to out-run the zombies, all I have to do is out-run Steve. (kiddin’)

    1. Please tell me where to get these bath salts Scott. : ) Thanks for reading. I just watched Zombieland for about the 5th time. LOL.

  2. Ha, I sometimes wonder if I can even outrun a zombie. I feel so slow some days and the heat certainly makes it much worse.

    1. Pretty much no one is sower than I. Especially in the heat. On the plus side, I don't think zombies run in the heat. I have a feeling Johann, that you would be able to out-run the zombies. I think you have a few tricks up your sleeve. Have a great weekend!

  3. I don't really do horror or zombie movies. But I LOVED that movie! Hilarious! And yes, you don't need to outrun the zombies, just the slowest person. Reminds me of a joke about a guy that bought a tiny .22 pistol and swore it was the best bear gun he'd every purchased. When asked why such a tiny gun worked so well, he said it was easy. He just shot his girlfriend in the knee and casually walked away from the attacking bear.

    1. Zombieland is definitely the best zombie move Neil. I still can't get past some of the grossest parts. But I love it when Woody (real name) locks himself into that booth and lines all those clips up for quick reloads. My middle son loves the movie too, but he just can't get over the fact that maybe all the zombies aren't killed. He can't get into the movie ending being: guy (especially nerd guy) gets girl.

  4. PS - Forgot to mention that there's a Zombies, Run! phone app out there. I've used it a few times but know a lot of people really like it. Gives them a reason to run from the zombies.

    1. I will have to tell hubby about that app. He's into those things, and killing zombies on video games (I'm not do much, even though I LOVE Zombieland). But I forgot to mention in my last response, that I totally get that joke about the bear and the small gun. We've been telling that joke, in different ways, in my house for ages. LOL.

    2. I MEAN, I'm not SO much . . . Other typos elsewhere seem too tedious to re-do. Tomorrow is rest day, so I've had a few glasses of wine tonight, which means I can't type as well. Happy weekend!

    1. Steve does have a nice mustache. Sadly, I think that if I tried, I could grow one like the old goat. LoL.

Thanks for reading Glen! I hope your summer is going swell.

  6. I was joking around with my son and told him the Cheetah chase was a race where you were trying to beat the cheetahs. I told him he didnt have to be fast, but he just couldnt be last.. It terrified the poor kid and he did NOT want to do it.. It was actually just a race to support the local zoo because the cheetahs were coming to the zoo.

  7. Sounds like a great race Khourt! BUT, I can understand your son's terror. I was always terrified to come in dead last. I've never been torn apart by cheetahs. I have come in dead last on at least 1, probably 2 occasions though. And it wasn't as bad as being caught by a cheetah. : )
