Thanks Johann. I'm just so afraid because I've barely run twenty miles in the past two weeks. I was going to run today, but I don't want to run if I'm not completely well. And I'm not. Getting there though.
Prior to the 1984 Olympic marathon Carlos Lopes had an accident (he was hit by a car, I believe) that prevented him for training for 10 days before the event. He won. That same year Joan Benoit had arthroscopic knee surgery 17 days before winning the marathon trial. She went on three months later to win the gold. Zatopek was hospitalized for two weeks prior to the 1950 European Games and was released only two days before the 10k. He won by a lap and then a few days later won the 5k as well.
Based on the above I am skeptical that your endurance is going to shoot itself in head because of two weeks' rest. Whatever you've built up will still be there on Saturday.
Maybe it's the rest you need. You'll be rested and rested.
ReplyDeleteI mean rested and ready. :)
DeleteI am definitely resting Hank. Will see you there!
DeleteOuch. Aspirina and rest !
ReplyDeleteThanks Daniele. I am getting better which is a good sign. And I am resting.
DeleteI think you'll have a good run if you recover from the flu completely. Take care Lauren!

DeleteI hope you feel better soon! Just consider this a forced taper/recovery time.
ReplyDeleteI kind of like the idea of a "forced" taper. Otherwise, I probably would over do it. Thanks Rachel.
