Home Run

Back in California.  But my trails are all closed due to the past couple weeks of storms.  So I ran out my front door and did my old, old run (yes on pavement!).  And it wasn’t half bad.  Actually it was lovely.  Cool, almost cold.  There were trees down from the storm and Doheny’s shore was covered, I mean covered with sticks and branches.  San Juan Creek was flowing.  Other runners were out.  And they smiled.  I don’t think that I could have asked for a better run on pavement.  I didn’t even feel the extra impact – in fact, I felt light and airy.  I could have kept running and running.  But alas, I had to return home for chores and not to mention, I’m  back to work this week.

  1. Wow--the middle picture is amazing. Is that all storm debris? Is that area of the beach usually just sand?

  2. Thanks for reading Trail Jogger. Yes, that middle beach (Doheny Beach) is usually just stand and that is all storm debris. It's a mess out here due to the rains. Fortunately, most of it was cleaned up by the time I got back (except for my trails, which are one big river!)

  4. Have you looked at the OC Parks website? "All trails closed until further notice." Yikes!

  5. Those pictures are gorgeous. I really like the 1st one a lot. There is a lot of debris!! All that was washed up? I heard on the news that the storms really stirred up a lot of gunk and not to go surfing.

  6. Thanks Kate. I ran at those birds to get them to fly in the first picture (& noticed a bystander cracking up at the spectacle).

The debris, I'm guessing, came from the streams that dump out into Doheny Beach. There are two creeks, San Juan Creek 9rather large), and one smaller one, jokingly called "polio pond" by the locals. This debris was right in front of the smaller creek.

  7. Hi Glen! Thanks for reading. I'm super bummed that all our trails are closed. I check the websites daily. I even call Aliso/Wood Cyns every day (sometimes twice) and it looks like there's no definate answer on reopening. What are we to do???
